wow. well to update here, i finally have new tires, all seasons, but nice nonetheless. I am sporting 205's up front and 225's in the rear and LOVE the handling!. The car rotates well and holds traction under pressure. Looking forward to Belle Chere!

oh, and annoying things like alternators, wheel studs, and speedo cables have been going out all the sudden.....ugh.

I think this should get this thread up to speed...

Well, my fuel pump went out on me about a week ago, so I replaced it along with a fuel filter and spark plugs. I am loving those headers I installed and hopefully tomorrow I will be replacing the muffler as well. Last night I installed those Eibach springs and they look great! Tomorrow I am getting a new caliper, rotor and brake pads for the rear. My left rear caliper is dragging so that should clean that up. Still to come in the mail are the R32 GTR wheels I am getting from Japan, tires for those wheels, a new axle, front rotors and pads.

I have been somewhat neglecting this car for some time now so I am excited to be working on this car again. When I get back from the beach I am planning on starting work again on my AE86 and my 85 MR2 Convertible I have.

I will have pics up soon.

I installed a new caliper, rotor, pads and axle on the left rear corner of the car. During this process I found that my hub was was extremely loose = bad wheel bearing. I got that problem worked out, installed my new wheel/tires and am set to go on my vacation now. When I get back I will finish up with new pads and rotors on the front as well.

Here is a teaser pic from my crappy cell phone camera to get an idea of the look and fitment. These wheels are 16x8" and weigh 18lbs a piece.

I will have much better pics soon because I am packing my camera to bring as well.

Well, things have gone well this week since I decided to take the MR2 down the road to be finished. Turns out there was some fuseable link that had blown. We took care of a few minor things like wiring up the o2 sensor, and piecing together the intake (courtesy of John Deer), and a few loose end. Right now all that is left to do is finish the exhaust and bleed the clutch. I got to start it and it fired tight up and seemed to idle well and rev smooth, but was loud of course. Of course i still have yet to wire up the tach, and of course my speedo cable is still broken, so those gauges are no good right now, but it seems like it should run strong and sound good. I will drive it around for a couple of days and decide if I can drive home this weekend. I am going to have to front the bill for this first of course....

The exhaust is going to be sweet as we planned it out. I made the worst ms paint drawing, but you get an idea of the design. The piping being used is 2.5" and is running through 2 stock mufflers off of a 2006 Mustang GT that I got dirt cheap. I am interested to see and hear how it turns up.

Image

Be expecting pictures and videos in time as I really have some cleaning up and finishing work to be done before I deem it 100%.

Thanks to everyone's help during this whole process. I would reccomend Doug (mr220v) for his work on the harness and helping me diagnose and work through the swap process. And of course, Humphrie's Automotive here in Boiling Springs can be thanked for the wonderful exhaust and help getting this beast back on the road.

I guess I should note that the motor installed now is a BEAMS 3sge motor putting out about 180 n/a. I am going to need some help getting this car re-classed now.

Man, I am seriously slack on updating this. Um, so of course the motor install was successful and still pulling strong. Honestly, I am in love with this motor: the sound, the power, and the fuel efficiency. It is exactly what I wanted in a motor for this car. Other than that, there has been just small things here and there over time. School and lack of extra funds keeps this "build" slow. Here is the latest update on the car though. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.

Purchased and installed a JDM steering wheel - still need to mod up the cruise and horn to work though.

Image

I had an issue with one of my coil-on plugs, and had to order a full set from overseas. Gotta love the cost of using a JDM motor...lol

Image

While teaching a friend how to drive stick, a deer went kamikaze on my fender, so the car got some love there.

Image

I was finally able to replace my cracked shifter surround, and was supposed to get the right boot, but the seller decided to not ship the boot and not return my calls. But, I did replace my dented engine lid, and got a replica side scoop for free. lol The scoop isn't the best, but I think I actually like it enough. Granted, I wouldn't have paid more than like $5 fr this. lol

Image

The exhaust that I had fabbed up for the motor did indeed fail, so I have a brand new, much more legit exhaust.

Image

Image

I do have some stuff I am working on, and have ordered as well. I have the headers off of the red top 3sge headed my way with a proper flange, so I can replace my headers and have a bolted in, not welded in, system. This should unlock the last 10hp from the motor by eliminating the cats and having a better design. I have finally picked out the bumper lenses I want, and ordered a smoked clear set from a group buy and have hyper yellow "jdm" bulbs that should look great. I am also about to pay for a set of 95 tail lights that have already been wired for my 91 harness. For those who know, I am getting the reverse light, but not the center panel. It is my hope to mod my current center panel to fit. I love that look, but hope to not destroy it. Also, since I have a lifetime alignment thing at firestone, I am about to order the poly bushings for the suspension to replace the badly cracked ones I have now. After the install, the handling should be very tight and smooth. Other than that, I am looking to replace my cracked front bumper and the passenger fender as well.

Most importantly, the car is being driven and I am having a TON of fun with it.

Also, I will be out at the next few events. I'm a little rusty but can't wait to see how the "new" car does.

I just ordered a set of prothane bushings and camber bolts for the front. They may be in on Friday but either way I will be getting the car aligned before the autox Saturday. I was very tempted to get new end links as well, but that will have to wait for another day. In the meantime, today I just had my new 215/50/16 Falken 912s mounted on the front. They are one step wider than the last pair and just barely clear everything. This should help me some at the autox as well. Also, one minor thing is I finally made up a bracket for the throttle cable instead of just using zip ties and then I updated my autox magnets as well. Sheesh, and I almost forgot; I have the new bumper lights in and they look great. Now the bumper looks really bad though... :/ I do have my catless headers here, but am doing some research about piping and the o2 sensor before I have them installed.

Picture update: (again with the shitty quality pics, sorry)

More recent stuff:

First off the muffler I initially bought for the car is crap. I have had to fix the welds on this thing many times now and since the material is so thin it is not my favorite sound, but it is functional and decent. That said, I finally took the car to the shop and finished the red top headers with a fully custom b-pipe with flanges, flex-pipe and o2 sensor bung. There is that little extra power on top now, but I will say that this thing is stupid loud with the mufflers disconnected.

Videos of 0-60 from a roll and a exhaust sound video. Both with the mufflers disconnected.

I'm not sure why the sound won't upload. I'll fix it later though.

The video doesn't even do it justice. I was setting off car alarms at just startup...

I also re-painted the cross bar to match the header shields and my rear suspension pieces.

Image

Before all this I replaced all my bushings with Prothane ones. While at it, I also ordered 1/4" spacers for the front and Toyota crash bolts and am now running 215 width tires up front with -2.5 degrees of camber. The handling with this combo is awesome and with 235s or 245s out back I should have "hellaflush" wheels all around.

Painted rear pieced with the new bushings.

Old wheel/tire fitment:

New wheel/tire fitment (not the best picture)
Image

Also, I picked up a turbo lid for cheap, put some black on it and here it is. These are lighter and provide much better cooling.

Image

Also I now have two 10" sub boxes to play with soon.

Image

As stated in my other thread, the AE86 should be back on the road soon and will be my dd. At that point I will be getting replacement body panels such as the front bumper and such to get ready for paint by next summer.
